ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif will return to country early Monday morning, a spokesman for the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) confirmed on Sunday.
Sharif, who was in London on account of his wife’s treatment for cancer, has decided to immediately return to country. Reports previously suggested the former premier would stay in London until complete recovery of his wife.
However, it has now been learnt that Sharif will be returning to country early Monday morning. He will reach Islamabad through PIA flight PK-786 at around 7:45 am, sources said.
Sources further said that Sharif made the decision following a consultation meeting with PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Punjab CM Shehbaz Sharif in London.
PML-N spokesman Mushahidullah Khan confirmed to the former prime minister will be returning home on Monday morning.
Sources said the former PM wanted to appear before the accountability court to face references filed against him by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
It was further stated that upon reaching the country, Sharif will hold a high-level party meeting to decide on future strategy and establishing contacts with rest of the political parties.
Sharif left for London on August 30 to meet his ailing wife, Kulsoom Nawaz. She has had three surgeries as part of her throat cancer treatment.-Web Desk
